A tragic incident in Mumbai’s Pydhonie area has left the local community in shock after four members of the same family reportedly died following suspected consumption of contaminated food. The victims include a 40-year-old man, his 35-year-old wife, and their two teenage daughters.
According to police reports, the family had hosted relatives for dinner on the night of April 25. After sharing a meal, the relatives left, and later in the night, between approximately 1:00 and 1:30 am, the family consumed watermelon. Shortly afterward, all four individuals reportedly developed sudden health complications.
Initial symptoms included vomiting, dizziness, and severe abdominal pain. A family doctor was called, and medication was administered. However, their condition deteriorated overnight.
By Sunday morning, the two daughters were found unconscious and were rushed to JJ Hospital. One of them was declared dead on arrival, while the second succumbed a few hours later. The parents’ condition also worsened rapidly, and both eventually passed away despite medical intervention.
Authorities have conducted postmortem examinations, and forensic as well as histopathology reports are awaited to determine the exact cause of death. Police have launched a detailed investigation to examine all possible angles, including food contamination or poisoning.
Medical experts have emphasized the importance of proper food hygiene, particularly when consuming raw fruits. They advise thoroughly washing fruits and vegetables and inspecting them carefully before consumption. Any visible damage, holes, or unusual marks should be treated with caution.
The incident has raised serious concerns about food safety and hygiene practices, especially in densely populated urban areas. Officials have urged the public to remain cautious while handling and consuming perishable food items.
