Prominent Indian Islamic scholar, author, and public speaker Moulana Syed Salman Husaini Nadwi passed away in the early hours of June 29, 2026, bringing to a close a distinguished career spanning several decades. The news of Moulana Syed Salman Husaini Nadwi passes away has saddened scholars, students, and admirers across India and the wider Muslim world.

He was widely known for his scholarly contributions in Arabic and Urdu literature, Islamic studies, and public lectures. The news of his demise marks the end of a long academic and religious career that influenced students and readers across India and beyond.

Born in 1954 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Syed Salman Husaini Nadwi belonged to a respected scholarly family. He received his early Islamic education at Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow, one of India’s leading Islamic seminaries. During his academic career, he specialized in Arabic language, Islamic studies, Hadith, Fiqh, Islamic history, and literature. He remained associated with Nadwatul Ulama for many years, serving in teaching and scholarly roles.

Nadwi authored numerous books in both Arabic and Urdu. His writings primarily focused on the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Islamic history, Dawah, and contemporary Islamic thought. Apart from his literary contributions, he participated in various national and international Islamic conferences, where he represented Indian Muslim scholarship. His lectures attracted audiences across different countries and addressed religious, educational, and social issues.

In the later years of his life, some of his public speeches, particularly those relating to certain companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), became the subject of significant scholarly debate and criticism. Several Sunni scholars expressed concern over those statements, emphasizing the importance of maintaining respect and reverence for all the Companions, including Amir Muawiyah (RA). A number of rebuttal articles and scholarly responses were subsequently published.

Supporters of Syed Salman Husaini Nadwi argued that parts of his speeches had been quoted without their full context. However, many senior Sunni scholars maintained that the explanations offered were insufficient and continued to stress the established principles regarding respect for the Companions.

As a result, the final phase of his public life became associated not only with his academic achievements but also with the debates surrounding these controversial remarks. Despite these controversies, his educational work, publications, and teaching activities remain part of the broader landscape of contemporary Islamic scholarship in India.

According to the family members, Syed Salman Husaini Nadwi’s Namaz e Janaza after Asr Prayer at Jamia Syed Ahmed Shaheed. He was former teacher of Nadwatul Ulama and Fomer Member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board. He was the grandnephew of the renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Ali Miya Nadwi (Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadwi).
