Hyderabad Police on Friday arrested five people in connection with the Masab Tank suicide abetment case which led to death of a 24-year-old man. Police have altered the case to Section 108 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), treating it as an alleged abetment to suicide case.

According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police Asif Nagar Divison K Srinivasu, a complaint was received on August 20, 2026, from the father of the deceased after he was informed that his son had been admitted to CARE Hospital, Nampally. The man was subsequently shifted to Osmania General Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment at around noon. The deceased was identified as Mir Sofiyan Ali, also known as Adil, aged 24. Police said he was a private employee and a resident of the Charminar area of Hyderabad.

Masab Tank Suicide Abetment Case: What Police Said

The ACP told to Raftaar e Deccan that the deceased had gone to Malakpet on August 19 to meet his friend Sharukh. After spending time together, the two went to Ramkoti for dinner. During the early hours of August 20, the deceased was allegedly called by Musthafa alias Furquan and asked to come to an apartment at Marwa Liberty, First Lancer, Masab Tank. The deceased reportedly went there with Sharukh, while Sharukh remained downstairs.

K Srinivasu said Sharukh later heard sounds of an argument from upstairs and subsequently learnt that the deceased had fallen from the seventh floor of the building. The investigation focused on five people identified by police as Mohammed Hanzala Pasha alias Sofiyan, Mohammed Isaq Uddin, Musthafa Khan alias Furquan, Mohd Nawaaz and MD Imran Khan.

According to investigators of Masab Tank Suicide Abetment Case, two of the accused had given the deceased a Royal Enfield motorcycle around four months earlier. Police said the motorcycle was later damaged in a road accident and remained at the deceased’s residence. The police allege that the accused subsequently pressured the deceased to have the motorcycle fully repaired or pay compensation for the damage, the deceased told them he was facing financial difficulties and was unable to meet the demand.

Police further stated that all five accused had gathered at the seventh-floor terrace of the apartment during the night of August 19-20. The deceased was allegedly called to the apartment at around 2 am, where the issue concerning the motorcycle was again raised. According to the investigation, the deceased expressed that he might take his own life if the pressure continued. Police allege that the accused nevertheless continued demanding that he return the vehicle after repairs or pay the damages.

The police have alleged that the pressure and humiliation faced by the deceased led to his death. Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, the case was altered to Section 108 read with Section 3(5) of the BNS. All five accused were arrested and are being produced before the court for judicial remand, according to the press note.

The case remains under investigation. Earlier relatives and friends of deceased staged a protest at Masab Tank Police Station and demanded to take strict agaisnt the culprits.
