The Telangana government has launched a new initiative aimed at strengthening women’s safety in Hyderabad, a city rapidly gaining global recognition. The Hyderabad City Police introduced the “Spandana – All Women First Responder System” to provide immediate assistance and protection to women in distress.
The system was officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at the TGICCC premises in Banjara Hills on Monday. During the event, he also unveiled the official poster of the initiative and highlighted the importance of creating a safer environment for women and children.
The “Spandana” system is designed to enhance existing emergency services such as Dial 100 and 112. When a distress call related to women or children is received, the information is instantly relayed to the nearest Spandana team. These teams are trained to reach the location within minutes and act as first responders.
Upon arrival, the team assesses the situation and ensures the safety of the victim. In cases involving physical assault or injury, victims are immediately transported to nearby government hospitals for medical care. If the accused is present at the scene, they are detained and handed over to local law enforcement for further legal action.
A key feature of this initiative is that all team members are women, including the driver and police personnel. Each team consists of a woman driver, a civil constable, and an armed reserve constable. The teams operate in two shifts, ensuring availability from morning until midnight.
A total of 14 teams have been deployed across seven law-and-order zones within the Hyderabad Commissionerate. These teams function under the supervision of the Women and Child Safety Wing.
The selected personnel have undergone extensive training in legal procedures, communication skills, self-defense techniques, first aid, and CPR. They have also been trained to coordinate with support systems such as SHE Teams, Sakhi centers, and Childline services.
Each patrol vehicle is equipped with modern tools including reflective jackets, emergency medical kits, wireless communication devices, tablets, and digital cameras.
The government stated that this initiative aims to provide not just immediate help but also emotional reassurance to women in distress. Officials emphasized that Telangana remains committed to ensuring safety and encouraging public trust in law enforcement.
