Hyderabad, June 17: As part of the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will soon begin extensive door-to-door verification across Telangana to update voter records and ensure that every eligible citizen remains on the electoral roll.
Under the exercise, BLOs will visit households to verify voter details, identify new eligible voters, remove duplicate or deceased entries, and update changes in addresses and family records. The verification process is expected to be carried out between June 25 and July 24, 2026.
Election officials have appealed to citizens to cooperate with BLOs during their visits and provide accurate information to avoid future complications in voter registration.
Documents to Keep Ready
Residents are advised to keep the following documents readily available:
Voter Identity Cards (EPIC) of all family members.
Aadhaar Cards.
Passport, ration card, electricity bill, water bill, or other address proof.
Birth Certificates, especially for newly eligible voters.
SSC certificates and other educational records showing parents’ names.
Parents’ passports, voter cards, SSC certificates, birth certificates, or other government-issued records.
Grandparents’ voter details, voter cards, passports, birth certificates, land records, or other official documents, wherever available.
Officials said these documents can help establish family lineage during “progeny mapping,” a process used to link present voters with earlier electoral rolls through parents and grandparents.
Minor Spelling Differences Not a Major Issue
Officials clarified that minor spelling variations in names across different documents should not cause panic. Differences such as abbreviations, initials, transliteration changes, or small spelling mistakes can generally be resolved during verification if supporting family documents establish the relationship.
For example, variations in the spelling of a parent’s or grandparent’s name in voter cards, SSC certificates, passports, birth certificates, or other official records can be explained and verified through multiple supporting documents.
Citizens are advised to provide as many relevant family documents as possible to help election officials confirm identities and family links.
Verify Details Carefully
During the visit, BLOs will provide pre-filled Enumeration Forms based on existing voter records. Residents should carefully verify:
Name and age details.
Address information.
Family relationships.
Additions of newly eligible voters.
Deletion of deceased family members.
Changes in residence.
Any errors should be corrected immediately before submission. Citizens should also obtain an acknowledgement after submitting the form.
Check Electoral Details in Advance
Voters can check their details online through the Election Commission’s voter services portal and keep relevant family information ready before the BLO visit. This will help speed up the verification process and reduce the chances of discrepancies. The citizens can check their details, their parents and grand parents details on this ECI’s website https://voters.eci.gov.in/
Draft Roll to Be Published on July 31
Following the verification exercise, the draft electoral roll is expected to be published on July 31, 2026. Citizens will have an opportunity to file claims and objections until August 30. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 1, 2026.
Election authorities have urged residents not to ignore BLO visits, stating that timely cooperation and proper documentation will help ensure that eligible voters remain on the electoral roll and can exercise their democratic right without difficulty.
