Hyderabad: 23 June, Posted at 8:52 PM IST
A statewide protest call by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) over various education-related issues, including private school fees, uniform policies, government school infrastructure, and the proposed closure of government schools, led several private and corporate schools in Hyderabad and other districts to declare a holiday on Tuesday, June 23, in anticipation of the protest.
School managements took precautionary measures to avoid inconvenience to students and staff.
The protest has been organized to highlight concerns over rising educational expenses and the deteriorating condition of government schools. Parents and education activists have raised objections to high tuition fees, additional charges, and expensive uniform policies imposed by certain private institutions.
Another major concern is the inadequate infrastructure in government schools. Protest organizers claim that many schools require improvements in classrooms, sanitation facilities, and teaching resources.
Reports also indicate opposition to proposals regarding the closure or merger of certain government schools. Educational groups argue that such decisions could adversely affect students from rural areas and economically weaker sections.
The bandh is expected to have its greatest impact on educational institutions, including government, private, and corporate schools. However, colleges, offices, and most commercial establishments are likely to function normally unless separate announcements are made.
Public transportation services, including buses, are generally expected to continue operating, and no major disruptions to routine services have been officially announced.
Educational institutions may adopt different approaches depending on local conditions and administrative decisions. As a result, some schools may remain open while others may declare holidays.
Parents have been advised to contact their respective school administrations directly to confirm the status of classes, examinations, and transportation services. Meanwhile, Hyderabad Police have made elaborate security arrangements in view of the bandh and are closely monitoring the situation.
