Sikh Delegation Meets Minister, Seeks Vaisakhi State Holiday Recognition

Hyderabad, April 10, 2026 — A delegation from the Sikh community met Telangana Minister for Public Enterprises and Minority Welfare, Mohammed Azharuddin, to extend an invitation for the upcoming Vaisakhi celebrations and present key community demands. The meeting highlighted issues of cultural recognition and minority welfare in the state.

The delegation formally invited the Minister to attend the Vaisakhi (Khalsa Foundation Day) celebrations as the chief guest. The event is scheduled to take place on April 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Gurudwara Saheb Sri Guru Ramdas Ji in Rahmathnagar, under the Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency.

During the interaction, community representatives emphasized the cultural and religious significance of Vaisakhi, one of the most important festivals in Sikhism. They stated that the Minister’s presence would uplift the community and add dignity to the celebrations.

A key demand presented during the meeting was to declare Vaisakhi as a State Festival and grant an official public holiday in Telangana. The delegation argued that such recognition would reflect inclusiveness and respect for the Sikh community’s heritage.

In addition, the delegation urged the government to establish a Sikh Corporation in Telangana. This body, they said, would address the socio-economic development and welfare needs of the Sikh population in the state.

Minister Mohammed Azharuddin responded positively to the requests. He assured the delegation that their demands would be carefully considered and reiterated the government’s commitment to minority welfare and communal harmony.

Community leaders, including Sardar Bhagender Singh and Sardar Joginder Singh Multani from the Gurudwara Management Committee, expressed appreciation for the Minister’s support. They also voiced optimism that their concerns would be addressed by the government.

The upcoming Vaisakhi celebrations are expected to see large participation, featuring special prayers, community service initiatives, and cultural programs promoting unity, equality, and service.
