A woman from Kamareddy district in Telangana has fallen victim to an online cyber fraud, losing approximately ₹1.68 lakh after trusting a fake mobile application that promised high returns through online tasks.

According to police, the incident took place in Domakonda mandal, where the victim was lured by cybercriminals through an app that claimed users could earn money by completing simple tasks. Believing the promises shown on the app, the woman began transferring money in installments.

Over the past three months, the victim regularly deposited funds as instructed by the app operators. The application displayed inflated earnings, showing that her investments were generating profits higher than the amount she had deposited. This visual manipulation further convinced her to invest additional money.

However, when the woman attempted to withdraw the displayed amount from the app, the transaction failed repeatedly. Despite several attempts, she was unable to recover any money. It was at this point that she realized she had been cheated.

The total loss amounted to nearly ₹1.68 lakh. Following the realization, the victim approached the local Domakonda police station and filed a formal complaint, explaining how the cyber fraud was carried out.

Police officials registered a case and have launched an investigation to trace the cybercriminals behind the fake application. Authorities have once again urged the public to remain cautious of unknown apps and online schemes that promise quick or guaranteed returns.

Cybercrime cases involving fake investment and task-based apps have been increasing across Telangana, with fraudsters exploiting the financial aspirations of unsuspecting users. Telangana Police officials urged people to immediately report to toll free number 1930 in case of any suspicious calls, cyber fraud or any lured investment offers.
