A powerful 30 minutes spell of rain and strong winds swept across Hyderabad on Friday night, causing widespread disruption in several parts of the city. Wind speeds reportedly touched 60 kmph, resulting in fallen trees, damaged power infrastructure, and prolonged electricity outages across multiple localities.
The storm struck around 9 PM, transforming an otherwise calm evening into a challenging situation for residents. Several areas experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong gusts of wind that affected transportation and public utilities.
One of the most significant incidents occurred at the Charminar Unani Hospital, where a massive 150-year-old tree collapsed during the storm. The falling tree damaged around ten parked two-wheelers. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported as there were no people nearby when the tree fell.
Authorities, including Charminar MLA Mir Zulfeqar Ali, municipal officials, disaster response personnel, and police teams, reached the site and supervised efforts to remove the fallen tree and clear the area.
The severe weather also affected power supply in numerous neighborhoods. Residents in Khairatabad, Somajiguda, Dilsukhnagar, Ameerpet, Yousufguda, Nizampet, Kondapur, Bashirbagh, Golconda, Rajendranagar, and Shivrampally reported electricity interruptions following damage to power lines and related infrastructure.
According to an update shared by TGSPDCL, restoration teams were deployed in the Cybercity Circle under the Kondapur Division after a fallen tree damaged electric poles connected to the 11KV 8th Battalion feeder. Officials stated that efforts were underway to restore supply at the earliest.
Social media platforms were flooded with complaints from residents across Hyderabad South and Ranga Reddy South. Users from localities including Sun City, Moin Bagh, Jamal Colony, Suleman Nagar, Shaheen Nagar, Mohammed Nagar, Bahadurpura, Bazarghat, Tadbun, Chandrayangutta, Bandlaguda, Gagan Pahad, Mahdipatnam, Shalibanda, Moghalpura, and several others reported power outages lasting between four and eight hours. Some residents claimed electricity remained unavailable throughout the night.
Rainfall measurements reported from various locations showed notable precipitation levels, with Rajendranagar recording one of the highest totals. The weather event highlighted the vulnerability of urban infrastructure during sudden storms and renewed concerns about tree maintenance and power resilience in densely populated areas.
Authorities continue restoration and cleanup operations while urging citizens to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.
