Hyderabad Traffic Police have uncovered a case involving the fraudulent use of identical vehicle registration numbers on multiple vehicles. The incident came to light following credible intelligence inputs and was registered by Borabanda Police in April 2026.
According to officials, the accused, D. Narayana Reddy, a resident of Rajiv Nagar, Borabanda, allegedly used the same registration number on two separate Honda Activa scooters. The number in question, TS09GD2712, was originally registered under the name of his daughter, Deepa Rani, a resident of Vengal Rao Nagar, SR Nagar.
During inspection, authorities found that the accused had deliberately affixed a duplicate number plate to another vehicle. The intent was reportedly to mislead enforcement agencies, evade penalties, and avoid legal consequences.
Police stated that such acts amount to impersonation of vehicle identity and cheating, causing potential loss to government revenue. Based on the findings, a case has been registered under FIR No. 181/2026 at Borabanda Police Station.
The charges include violations under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 158 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The accused has been served a notice under Section 35(3) of BNSS, and further investigation is currently underway.
Officials highlighted that the case was detected through coordinated efforts between Hyderabad Traffic Police and Borabanda Police, supported by advanced surveillance systems such as CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras.
Hyderabad Traffic Police have issued a public advisory warning citizens against using fake, identical, or tampered number plates. Authorities emphasized that such violations are serious offenses and will be dealt with strictly under the law.
Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious cases through official platforms including the e-Challan website, email, or WhatsApp helpline.
