Centre and State Reach Consensus on Hyderabad Metro Projects

Discussions between the Telangana government and the Union government regarding Hyderabad Metro Rail projects have made significant progress following a series of meetings held in New Delhi between Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and senior Union ministers.

The discussions focused on the proposed takeover of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-I and the implementation of the Metro Rail Phase-II expansion project.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw over two consecutive days in the national capital. The Chief Minister explained the challenges related to the takeover of Metro Phase-I and the need to move forward with the Metro Phase-II project.

The Chief Minister also held detailed discussions with Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy regarding the future of the metro projects.

During a subsequent meeting held at the residence of Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the state and central leadership reached a consensus on appointing a consultant to study the various aspects of the project.

SBICAPS has been selected as the consultant for the assignment.

The consultant will conduct a comprehensive assessment of Hyderabad Metro Phase-I, including its valuation, financial requirements, possible loan arrangements, and identification of suitable lending agencies.

In addition, the consultant will study the proposed Metro Phase-II expansion, including project costs, financing mechanisms, and future development requirements.The state government and the Union government will determine the future course of action based on the report submitted by the consultant.

To ensure smooth coordination, both governments have agreed to appoint senior officials as nodal representatives. A senior official from the Union government and the Special Chief Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department will coordinate the consultant’s work and facilitate faster completion of the study.

The latest developments are being viewed as a positive step toward resolving pending issues related to Hyderabad Metro Rail and advancing future expansion plans.The consultant’s report is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the financial and operational roadmap for both the existing metro network and future expansion corridors.
