Andhra Pradesh has become the first Indian state to commission indigenous quantum computing facilities, marking a major milestone in India’s technological advancement. The facilities were inaugurated on Tuesday April 14, in Amaravati.

The newly launched Amaravati Quantum Reference Facilities (AQRF) include two key units—Amaravati 1S located at SRM University and Amaravati 1Q at Medha Towers. These facilities are designed as open-access platforms, enabling researchers, students, and startups to test and develop quantum technologies.

According to Chief Minster Chandrababu Naidu AQRF will function as a fully instrumented hardware testbed. It will allow the validation, benchmarking, and certification of quantum components under real-world operating conditions. This initiative is expected to accelerate indigenous manufacturing capabilities in the field of quantum computing.

He further stated that the development aligns with India’s broader vision of technological self-reliance under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative. It also strengthens the objectives of the National Quantum Mission, which aims to position India as a global leader in quantum technologies. Chief Minister highlighted that the launch coincides with two significant occasions—Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary and World Quantum Day which reflects Ambedkar’s vision of empowering individuals through education and knowledge.

By making advanced quantum infrastructure accessible, the Andhra Pradesh government aims to democratize cutting-edge technology and ensure that Indian students and innovators are not left behind in the global race for technological supremacy, he added.
