Telangana Launches ₹1.20 Crore Insurance Scheme for Employees

Hyderabad: 24 June, Posted at 10:00 AM IST

The Telangana government has announced a major welfare initiative for its employees and pensioners by introducing the Employees Life Insurance Scheme. The scheme is scheduled to be launched on the 25th of this month at Ravindra Bharathi.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to formally inaugurate the scheme at 2:30 PM during a special event in Hyderabad. Government employees, pensioners, unions, and representatives from across the state have been invited to attend.

Under the Employees Life Insurance Scheme, eligible government employees and pensioners will receive life insurance coverage worth ₹1.20 crore. The scheme is designed to provide financial security to families in the event of the employee’s death.

According to the government, the insurance amount will be payable in cases of both natural death and accidental death. The family members or legal beneficiaries will receive the insured amount.

One of the major highlights of the scheme is that employees and pensioners will not be required to pay any insurance premium. The Telangana government will bear the entire premium cost and make payments directly to the insurance companies.

The state government has reportedly entered into agreements with insurance companies to implement the scheme effectively. In addition, memorandums of understanding have been signed with several major banks where government employees and pensioners maintain their salary and pension accounts.

Officials say these banking arrangements will help ensure that claim settlements are transferred directly to beneficiaries’ accounts. This process is expected to eliminate delays and reduce the involvement of intermediaries.

The government stated that the scheme has been designed with the objective of providing financial protection and support to employees and pensioners. It is being viewed as one of the most significant welfare measures introduced for government staff in recent years.

Employee associations and unions have welcomed the announcement and expressed appreciation to the Telangana government. For several months, discussions had been taking place regarding the proposed insurance scheme, but there was uncertainty about its launch date. The latest announcement has now provided clarity.

The government has requested employees and pensioners to attend the launch programme at Ravindra Bharathi. Participants have been advised to carry their official identity cards.

The Telangana Gazetted Employees Joint Action Committee has also urged employee unions, organizations, and representatives from mandal, district, and state levels to participate in the event.

The Employees Life Insurance Scheme is expected to provide substantial financial assurance to thousands of government employees and pensioners across Telangana, strengthening social security support for their families.
