Fresh Sanitation Special Drive from December 29
Hyderabad: 27 December Posted on 10:35 PM IST
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will launch a fresh round of a sanitation special drive across the city starting December 29, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan announced on Saturday.
The Commissioner instructed Zonal Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners to closely monitor sanitation works to ensure effective implementation at the field level. He stressed that special focus should be placed on long-pending garbage dumps and identified garbage-vulnerable points during the drive.
On Saturday, Karnan conducted field inspections in the Secunderabad and Malkajgiri zones along with Secunderabad Zonal Commissioner Ravi Kiran and Malkajgiri Zonal Commissioner Sanchit Gangwar. The inspections were aimed at assessing the quality of sanitation works and overall civic conditions in key areas.
During his visit to the Gandhi Hospital and surrounding localities in the Secunderabad zone, the Commissioner reviewed sanitation standards, pedestrian facilities, and public safety issues. He expressed serious concern over the presence of stray dogs in and around the hospital premises.
Karnan noted that dogs previously shifted to rehabilitation centres were re-entering hospital areas from nearby localities. To address the issue immediately, he directed that a joint inspection be carried out with the Chief Veterinary Officer and the Veterinary Deputy Director. He ordered officials to capture stray dogs within hospital premises and shift them to animal care centres, while ensuring such incidents do not recur.
The Commissioner further instructed Deputy Director-level veterinary officers to personally monitor hospitals, schools, and other crowded public places on a daily basis. He warned that strict action would be taken against officials in case of dog-bite incidents in sensitive locations and said complaints related to stray dog menace must be resolved without delay.
As part of the sanitation review, Karnan also inspected pedestrian infrastructure and directed officials to immediately clear garbage heaps accumulated on footpaths and restore them for safe public use.
In the Malkajgiri zone, particularly in Old Alwal, the Commissioner inspected garbage-vulnerable points and instructed officials to ensure regular monitoring and timely removal of waste. He emphasized that roads and streets must remain clean at all times.
The sanitation special drive aims to strengthen cleanliness, improve public safety, and address persistent civic issues across Hyderabad through intensified monitoring and coordinated action.
