The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will launch a Mega Electronic Waste Cleanliness Drive across the city on January 12 and 13, covering 300 wards as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The initiative marks a significant step toward sustainable urban sanitation and environmental protection in Hyderabad.

The drive aims to create widespread awareness among citizens on the importance of responsible e-waste disposal while ensuring systematic collection, segregation, and scientific processing of electronic waste from residential, commercial, and public spaces.

A wide range of discarded electronic items will be collected during the campaign, including large and small household appliances, IT and telecom equipment, consumer electronics, batteries, UPS systems, and other electronic accessories.

GHMC officials said the initiative will be implemented in coordination with HiMSW Limited, which will deploy dedicated and branded e-waste collection vehicles in every circle of the city. The collected material will be transported to the authorised e-waste processing facility at Dundigal, following prevailing e-waste management rules.

To ensure effective public participation, awareness campaigns will be conducted from January 9 onwards with the involvement of sanitation workers, Resident Welfare Associations, NGOs, and Self-Help Groups. Temporary collection points have also been identified in each ward to ensure smooth operations during the two-day drive.

GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan has directed Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and sanitation officials to mobilise all stakeholders and ensure the successful execution of the initiative. The civic body’s Public Relations wing has also been instructed to ensure wide publicity and media outreach.

Officials reiterated that proper e-waste management is critical for protecting public health and the environment, urging citizens to actively participate in making Hyderabad a cleaner and greener city.
