20 Dead in Chevella Bus-Truck Collision on Hyderabad–Bijapur Highway

Hyderabad, Nov 3: A major road tragedy struck Telangana on Monday when a speeding tipper truck collided head-on with a passenger bus near Khanapur stage in Chevella mandal, Ranga Reddy district.

According to police reports, the accident occurred on a sharp curve of the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway. The tipper, carrying gravel, rammed into a Tandur depot bus traveling toward Hyderabad. The impact was so severe that the gravel poured into the bus, crushing passengers.

At least 20 people, including 11 women, nine men, and a one-year-old girl, were killed instantly. Two of the deceased were the bus and tipper drivers. Around 40 others sustained injuries, with five reported to be in critical condition.

Rescue teams used JCB machines to clear the debris and retrieve bodies. The injured were rushed to Chevella Government Hospital and later shifted to Hyderabad for better treatment. Traffic on the Chevella–Vikarabad route came to a standstill for several hours.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed shock and ordered immediate relief operations. He directed officials to ensure the injured receive proper medical care and that ministers reach the site to oversee rescue work.

Local MLA and Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar also visited the scene and spoke to authorities, demanding a detailed report on the cause of the accident.
