AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has expressed concern over the demolition of several mosques and dargahs in Rajasthan’s border districts, alleging that Muslim religious sites are being selectively targeted.
In a social media post on X, Owaisi stated that demolitions have taken place in the districts of Bikaner, Phalodi, Jaisalmer and Barmer. He cited information received from AIMIM leaders in the region regarding the alleged demolition of multiple religious structures. According to Owaisi, four mosques in Bikaner and nine mosques and dargahs across Phalodi, Jaisalmer and Barmer have already been demolished.
He also referred to the reported action against the approximately 250-year-old dargah of Hazrat Mahmood Shah Jilani located on the Ramgarh-Tanot Bypass Road in Jaisalmer. Owaisi alleged that the demolitions were being justified on national security grounds. He questioned these reasons and stated that residents of the affected areas had not been involved in activities related to national security concerns.
He further claimed that only Muslim places of worship were being subjected to demolition action. According to the AIMIM leader, authorities initially cited encroachment on grazing land in certain cases. He alleged that where documents indicated private ownership, the focus shifted to issues relating to permissions and approvals.
Addressing Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Owaisi described the demolitions as discriminatory and called for immediate intervention to halt the actions. The issue has generated political debate, with opposition leaders raising concerns regarding the demolition drives and the treatment of religious structures.
