A 19-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly died by suicide in Hyderabad’s Miyapur area on Saturday, just a day before the scheduled NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination. The incident has once again raised concerns about academic pressure and the emotional challenges faced by competitive exam candidates.
According to police, the student identified as Sheikh Sana had been preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test and was residing with her sisters while pursuing her studies. Her father is reportedly employed in Kuwait, while her mother had travelled to Proddatur around ten days before the incident.
Police officials said preliminary findings indicate that academic stress, family expectations and anxiety related to previous setbacks may have contributed to her emotional distress. However, investigators stated that the exact circumstances are still being examined.
Authorities also said that a note written in English was reportedly found at the scene. According to police, the note stated that no one should be held responsible for her death. After receiving information about the incident, police reached the location and shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
The tragedy occurred just one day before the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination, an examination that carries significant importance for thousands of medical aspirants across the country. Mental health experts have repeatedly highlighted the pressures associated with highly competitive entrance examinations. Long study hours, fear of failure, uncertainty regarding future opportunities and family expectations can sometimes create overwhelming stress among students.
Recent reports of deaths involving NEET aspirants in different parts of the country have raised concerns among parents, educators and child psychologists. Experts emphasize the importance of emotional support, open communication and timely professional help for students experiencing anxiety or distress.
