A political controversy involving senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir has intensified after an alleged audio recording attributed to him sparked debate within the Telangana Congress. The issue has now reached the party’s disciplinary committee at Gandhi Bhavan, where both Shabbir Ali and complainant Indupriya are expected to present their respective versions.
The controversy emerged after an audio clip purportedly carrying Shabbir Ali’s voice began circulating on social media. The contents of the recording allegedly contained remarks related to Congress leadership and internal party matters.
Following the controversy, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s disciplinary committee initiated proceedings to examine the matter.
Shabbir Ali appeared before disciplinary committee chairman Mallu Ravi to provide an explanation regarding the audio clip. According to party sources, the committee is also expected to hear the version of Indupriya, who filed complaints regarding the alleged remarks.
Shabbir Ali has consistently denied that the voice in the circulating audio belongs to him. He has claimed that the recording is fabricated and was created to damage his political reputation.
The senior Congress leader stated that he has served the Congress party for more than four decades and has never made remarks against the party or its leadership. He also emphasized that he shares cordial relations with state Congress leaders and denied making any controversial comments.
His supporters have alleged that the audio may have been generated or manipulated using artificial intelligence technology. They have demanded a forensic examination of the recording to determine its authenticity.
The group supporting Shabbir Ali has reportedly approached police authorities seeking action against individuals allegedly responsible for circulating the audio. They have also requested that the recording be examined by forensic experts.
On the other hand, complaints have been raised by Congress leader Indupriya, who has sought action against Shabbir Ali and some of his supporters. She has also alleged objectionable campaigning against her.
According to party leaders, the disciplinary committee is attempting to resolve the dispute through discussions with both sides. Mallu Ravi has indicated that efforts are being made to address differences and prevent further escalation within the party.
Political observers believe the controversy reflects broader internal tensions within the party, including differences between senior and emerging leaders at the district level.
At present, the committee has not announced any final decision. The outcome will largely depend on the explanations submitted by both parties and any evidence examined during the inquiry.
The Congress leadership appears keen to contain the controversy and prevent further divisions within the organization. Whether the committee accepts Shabbir Ali’s explanation or recommends additional action remains to be seen.
