Tension prevailed near the Kattamaisamma Temple at Safilguda in Malkajgiri on the wee hours of Sunday following an incident reported near the temple premises, which led to protests by certain Hindu organizations. The situation, however, was brought under control after swift police intervention.

According to preliminary information, a Muslim youngman was found involved in an alleged act near the temple in the early hours, triggering objections and protests by local groups. Activists associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party, Bajrang Dal, and the BJP youth wing staged a protest under the leadership of BJP leader Bhanu Prakash, alleging deliberate desecration and demanding strict action.

Police officials reached the spot immediately and detained the individual. Authorities clarified that an investigation was underway to establish the facts, motive, and background of the person involved. Police also cautioned that claims circulating about the individual being a non-local or a Rohingya migrant were unverified and urged the public not to spread rumours.

Subsequently, as per an official press release, Neredmet Police Station registered a case as CR No. 41/2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused was identified as Altaf, aged 26, a resident of Bidar district in Karnataka.

The accused was arrested and produced before the Hon’ble court on January 11, following which he was remanded to judicial custody. Police stated that the antecedents and past history of the accused are being verified and that further action will be taken strictly in accordance with law.

In view of heightened sensitivity, police deployed additional forces in and around the temple area to maintain law and order. Officials issued a clear advisory asking citizens not to believe or circulate unverified information and to rely only on official updates.

Appealing for calm and communal harmony, police reiterated that strict action would be taken based on evidence and legal findings. The situation remained tense for some time but was later brought under control. Meanwhile, BJP Telangana State President Ramchander Rao visited the temple and alleged that the incident was deliberate and intended to hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus.
