A PIL filed by ASEEM India and SIO Telangana has prompted the Telangana High Court to seek a detailed action plan from the state government regarding delays in post-matric scholarships for minority students.
The Telangana High Court has directed the state government to present a comprehensive plan addressing the delay in post-matric scholarships for minority students. According to Activist SQ Masood the directive came during a hearing on January 9, following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the Association for Social and Educational Empowerment of Minorities (ASEEM India) and the Students Islamic Organization of Telangana (SIO Telangana).
The division bench instructed both the Minorities Welfare Department and the Finance Department to submit affidavits outlining specific steps to ensure timely scholarship disbursal. The court scheduled the next hearing for January 29, 2026.
Advocates Mounis Abidi and Syed Ghiyasuddin, appearing for the petitioners, argued that the scholarship delays were affecting thousands of students who rely on the scheme for their education. They emphasized the legal obligation of the government to release funds on time and called for a functional grievance redressal mechanism.
The PIL also brought attention to reports that some colleges were withholding students’ educational certificates due to non-payment of scholarship amounts. The petitioners urged the court to intervene to prevent such practices.
Observers see the case as a crucial step toward ensuring accountability in welfare delivery systems and protecting the educational rights of minority students in Telangana.
According to official sources, the Telangana government has not released over ₹500 crore in RTF and MTF scholarships to minority students over the past four academic years, forcing thousands of students to face serious hurdles in continuing their education.
