In view of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, Telangana’s Minority Welfare Minister Mohammad Azharuddin conducted a detailed inspection of Makkah Masjid in Hyderabad on Wednesday, accompanied by Charminar MIM MLA Mir Zulfiqar Ali and Faheem Qureshi Chairman of TGMREIS.
During the visit, the minister reviewed the ongoing maintenance, cleaning drives, and inter-departmental coordination to ensure smooth arrangements for worshippers and visitors. Officials from the police, electricity, waterworks, and archaeology departments were also present.
Azharuddin emphasized that Makkah Masjid, being more than 400 years old, requires year-round maintenance rather than seasonal efforts. He directed departments to maintain regular cleaning, fix water and sanitation issues promptly, and enhance lighting and safety measures.
The minister appreciated GHMC’s contribution in organizing cleaning campaigns and installing water camps. He also instructed the police to improve traffic and parking management around the mosque during Ramadan to ensure easy access for devotees.
Mir Zulfiqar Ali highlighted that, following the representation by MP Asaduddin Owaisi, a large shade is erected annually in the mosque courtyard to facilitate iftar and taraweeh prayers for thousands of worshippers.
Azharuddin added that Makkah Masjid’s upkeep reflects the city’s identity and that maintaining cleanliness and respect in this sacred space is everyone’s duty.
