Hyderabad: January 6, Posted on 2:37 PM IST

Two tragic drowning incidents involving toddlers were reported from Telangana within a span of 24 hours, raising serious concerns about child safety and supervision around water bodies.

The first incident occurred in Hyderabad’s Hydernagar area on Sunday, where a three-year-old boy died after accidentally falling into a swimming pool inside a gated residential community. The second incident was reported from Kamareddy district, where another toddler drowned after falling into an uncovered water tank at a farmhouse.

According to police, the Hyderabad incident took place at Vertex Prime Gated Community under the Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) police limits. The victim, identified as Arjun Kumar, was playing within the apartment premises when he reportedly slipped and fell into the swimming pool.

As the fall went unnoticed for some time, residents later spotted the child floating in the pool and immediately informed family members. He was rushed to a private hospital in Nizampet, where doctors attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). However, the child could not be revived and was declared dead.

Police stated that Arjun’s parents, residents of Chintal, were out of town for holidays and had left the child at his grandmother’s house. The child’s father has alleged negligence on the part of the residential management, citing the absence of caretakers near the swimming pool and lack of active CCTV monitoring despite it being a weekend.

In the second incident, reported from Kamareddy district, a three-year-old boy identified as Ranvith Kumar fell into an uncovered water tank at a private farmhouse near Rajiv Nagar Colony. His father, Budda Bhaskar, works as a watchman at the farmhouse, where the family was staying.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the child was playing in the area when he accidentally slipped into the open tank. He was rushed to a government hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Police in both cases have registered separate cases and stated that investigations are ongoing. Authorities are examining whether adequate safety measures such as fencing, protective covers, and supervision were in place.

The incidents have renewed calls for stricter child safety norms in residential complexes, farmhouses, and workplaces. Police have urged parents, property owners, and resident welfare associations to take proactive steps to prevent such avoidable tragedies
