Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar has announced a zero-tolerance policy against food adulteration, warning that offenders will face stringent legal action.

In a decisive move to protect public health, Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar has ordered a citywide crackdown on food adulteration rackets. Speaking at a high-level coordination meeting at the Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills on Wednesday, Sajjanar emphasized that food adulteration would henceforth be treated as an “Attempt to Murder.”

He announced the formation of joint task forces comprising Police and Food Safety officials to identify and dismantle the networks involved in large-scale adulteration of food and beverages. The Commissioner clarified that enforcement would extend beyond street vendors to manufacturing and processing units responsible for mass distribution.

To streamline enforcement, a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is being finalized. It will guide officials through raids, evidence collection, product seizures, and arrests without procedural delays. Habitual offenders could face detention under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act, while their trade licenses may be permanently revoked.

Sajjanar also revealed that the police will soon launch a dedicated WhatsApp number and toll-free helpline for citizens to report suspected adulteration anonymously. He assured that informants’ identities would be kept confidential.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from both departments, including Addl. CP (Crimes) M. Srinivasulu, Jt. CP (Traffic) D. Joel Davis, and DCPs N. Shweta, K. Apoorva Rao, CH. Rupesh, and Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath. From the Food Safety Department, Dr. Shiva Leela, Vijay Kumar, Bal Raju, Anand Rao, and Jagga Reddy were present.

Concluding the session, Sajjanar urged all traders and food producers to maintain strict quality standards, warning that violations would invite severe penalties under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Food Safety and Standards Act
