In a major policing reform, the Telangana government has created the Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate, reorganizing areas that were earlier under Rachakonda Police Commissionerate along with select pockets from Hyderabad City Police and Cyberabad Police.
The move is aimed at bringing policing closer to the public, improving response time, and ensuring stronger supervision in fast-growing residential, industrial, and IT-corridor regions in the northeastern and eastern parts of Hyderabad.
Officials said Malkajgiri, Uppal, LB Nagar, and surrounding localities have witnessed rapid population growth, expansion of housing colonies, rising traffic volumes, and an increase in crime complaints. Earlier, these areas were spread across large commissionerates, making effective monitoring and quick decision-making difficult.
Under the new government order, the Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate will comprise 4 police zones, 10 ACP divisions, and 30 police stations. Authorities said the smaller and more focused structure would allow quicker administrative decisions and easier access to senior officers for citizens.
The four zones include the newly proposed Begumpet Zone, LB Nagar Zone, Malkajgiri Zone, and Uppal Zone. The Begumpet Zone has been formed using areas taken largely from Hyderabad City Police and parts of Cyberabad, covering busy residential and commercial localities such as Alwal, Begumpet, Bowenpally, and Tirumalagerry.
The LB Nagar Zone has been carved mainly from Rachakonda Police, covering dense residential areas and highway-side growth corridors. The Malkajgiri Zone forms the core of the new commissionerate and includes industrial belts, defence establishments, and large housing colonies, while the newly proposed Uppal Zone focuses on IT corridor expansion and high-density residential layouts.
According to officials, the majority of areas were taken from Rachakonda Police, with the Begumpet–Gopalapuram–Tirumalagerry belt coming from Hyderabad City Police, and the Shamirpet area shifted from Cyberabad Police. This redistribution is intended to balance workload across all commissionerates.
Citizens have been advised to verify their updated police station jurisdiction and approach the new stations for FIRs, passport and tenant verification, and women and child safety complaints. Officials emphasized that the creation of the Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate is a structural reform aimed at delivering sharper policing and safer neighbourhoods, rather than merely a change in administrative boundaries.
