Telangana Liquor Sales Hit New High, Social Impact Ignored

From December 1 to December 4, alcohol worth nearly ₹600 crore was sold across the state, according to Excise department officials. Sales during these four days crossed 578.86 crore rupees. Officials also reported a sharp year-on-year rise. Liquor sales increased by 107 percent compared to the same period last year. Beer sales also show clear growth. During these four days last year, only 4.26 lakh cases of beer were sold. The current sales reflect a major jump in consumer demand. The liquor policy period from 2023 to 2025 ended on Sunday. Telangana Human Rights Commission orders college to return certificates to B Pharmacy students

The Telangana State Human Rights Commission on Thursday directed the immediate return of certificates belonging to 17 B. Pharmacy students of Sultan-ul-Uloom College of Pharmacy, Hyderabad, after finding that the college had illegally withheld them on the pretext of pending government fee reimbursement. The case was taken up following a complaint by the students alleging that the retention of their original documents, including Transfer Certificates, was jeopardising their chances of pursuing higher education. In its order, the Commission observed that such practices violate the fundamental human rights of students and obstructed their Right to Education guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution.
