Harish Rao Slams SIT Notice as “Trash,” Calls for Judge-Led Inquiry

Hyderabad: 20 January, Posted at 10:41 PM IST

Former Minister and BRS MLA T. Harish Rao reacted strongly after appearing before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Hyderabad on Tuesday over the phone tapping case. Rao described the notice as “politically motivated” and accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of using the probe to divert attention from corruption issues.

Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan, Harish Rao alleged that the SIT inquiry was repetitive and intended to harass opposition leaders. “The same questions are asked repeatedly. Whenever officers are questioned, phone calls come in and the process restarts,” he claimed.

Rao accused Revanth Reddy’s brother-in-law of being the “first accused” in corruption cases and challenged the government to allow a sitting High Court judge to monitor the investigation. He said, “If you have courage and no wrongdoing, let a judge investigate.”

The BRS leader reiterated his respect for the judiciary but said he would continue exposing what he termed as “corruption and misgovernance.” He added, “We are KCR’s soldiers — we have faced arrests and false cases before.”

Harish Rao also criticized the state government for failing to deliver on promises such as loan waivers, pensions, and jobs. “Instead of fixing farmers’ and people’s problems, they are creating political drama,” he said.

Rao has appeared before SIT at Jubilee Hills Police Station amid tight security and was interrogated for eight hours.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar clarified that Harish Rao’s questioning was part of the ongoing investigation in Crime No. 243 of 2024 related to illegal phone tapping. He emphasized that the inquiry was conducted strictly as per procedure and urged the public not to spread false information.
