Aurangabad: 13 January, Posted at 6:38 PM IST
Launching a direct attack on the BJP and the RSS for what he called the “weaponisation of history” against Muslims, Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday concluded the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen’s municipal election campaign in Maharashtra with a massive public rally in Aurangabad, positioning communal politics versus governance as the central issue of the polls.
Addressing a large gathering, Owaisi thanked party workers, elders, women, and youth for their support throughout the campaign. He said the Aurangabad rally marked the final public meeting of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen before polling.
Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, Owaisi appealed to voters across Maharashtra to support AIMIM candidates and vote for the party’s “kite” symbol. He praised the efforts of state party leaders, including Imtiaz Jaleel, for strengthening the campaign across districts.
In a sharp political attack, Owaisi accused the BJP and the RSS of selectively using history to target Muslims. He argued that historical events were being distorted to spread communal hatred and divert attention from issues such as unemployment, inflation, and poverty.
Highlighting the role of Muslims in India’s freedom struggle, Owaisi rejected attempts to portray them as outsiders. He warned against calls to “take revenge of history,” stating that such narratives would only deepen social divisions.
Owaisi also issued a strong message to former party members contesting against AIMIM, urging them to respect party unity and collective decisions. He stressed that electoral success must translate into accountability and development at the ward level.
Concluding his speech, Owaisi urged voters to participate actively in the elections and assured that elected corporators would be regularly reviewed on civic issues such as sanitation, roads, healthcare, schools, and protection of street vendors.
MIM Maharashtra State Unit President and Former MP Imtiaz Jaleel and other leaders of party also addressed the rally. Earlier MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi also concluded his Maharashtra tour by addressed a rally in Dhule on Monday night.
