Telangana Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, and Rural Water Supply Minister Dansari Anasuya, also known as Seethakka, has assured that there will be no disruption in drinking water supply across the state during the upcoming summer months. The announcement comes as authorities prepare for the peak summer period.
At a high-level review meeting held at the State Secretariat, the Minister emphasized that the next two to three months are critical and directed officials to remain vigilant. She instructed Mission Bhagiratha authorities to ensure uninterrupted water supply and to promote awareness among citizens on the judicious use of water.
Officials informed the Minister that current reservoir levels are sufficient to meet drinking water demands. Water allocations from the Krishna and Godavari river basins are continuing as planned. Key reservoirs, including Singur and Srisailam, are reportedly maintaining adequate storage levels to cater to summer requirements.
The Minister stressed the importance of proactive measures, including daily monitoring of water supply status and prompt response to any disruptions. She directed officials to immediately address pipeline leakages and resolve complaints received through the 1916 toll-free helpline efficiently.
As part of summer preparedness, repair and maintenance works for hand pumps, motors, and pipelines are already underway. Authorities are also working on strengthening rural water supply systems to prevent shortages.
In addition to water supply, the Minister reviewed the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). She highlighted issues related to attendance tracking in remote areas due to network problems and stated that the state would seek relaxation from the Centre regarding facial recognition requirements.
She also raised concerns over delayed wage payments under MGNREGS, noting that payments have been pending for nearly three months. Telangana currently ranks second in the country in providing employment under the scheme, with over three lakh people receiving work daily.
The Minister further reviewed the implementation of the PESA Act in agency areas and emphasized its importance in protecting tribal rights. She called for full implementation across 1,289 gram panchayats and directed officials to enhance awareness and expedite administrative appointments.
She concluded by stating that Mission Bhagiratha, MGNREGS, and PESA implementation must progress in a coordinated manner, with review meetings scheduled every 15 days to monitor progress.
