Hyderabad, April 4, 2026 — The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) carried out a large-scale encroachment removal drive across the city on Saturday. The action was taken following directions from the High Court and government instructions to clear footpaths and road margins.
The drive was conducted simultaneously across all six GHMC zones. Authorities selected one major road stretch in each zone and mobilized staff from various circles to ensure smooth execution.
Multiple departments worked in coordination during the operation. The Vigilance Wing coordinated with Traffic and Law & Order Police, while the Engineering Wing arranged machinery and manpower. The Sanitation Wing was responsible for clearing debris after the removal process.
Senior officials, including the GHMC Commissioner, Chief City Planner, and Zonal Commissioners, personally inspected and supervised the drive. Deputy Commissioners and staff from Town Planning and other departments actively participated.
According to official data, a total of 798 encroachments were removed during the drive. This includes 340 permanent structures and 458 temporary encroachments.
Key locations covered in the operation included Shamshabad, Charminar, Rajendranagar, Golconda, Khairatabad, and Secunderabad zones. Major stretches such as Rallaguda Road, Laad Bazar to Puranapul Road, and Secunderabad Railway Station Road were cleared.
Officials stated that similar drives will continue in the future to ensure pedestrian safety and smooth vehicular movement across Hyderabad.
GHMC has also appealed to citizens and shopkeepers to avoid encroaching on public spaces. Authorities warned that strict departmental action will be taken against violators.
