A day after the obstruction of an encroachment drive in the old city, police registered a case against MIM leaders and workers following a complaint from a police constable, who alleged he was assaulted during an GHMC drive.
In his complaint, the constable named MLC Rahmath Baig and former corporator Ghouse among those present. The incident took place on 4 April 2026, near Murgi Chowk in the Charminar area.
According to the complaint, the constable was on patrol duty to ensure security for GHMC officials conducting an anti-encroachment operation from Lad Bazar to Puranapool. The operation was carried out as part of official instructions when tensions rose.
At around 10:15 AM, a group allegedly led by Sahil, identified as the son of former corporator Ghouse, along with MLC Rahmath Baig and several associates, reportedly gathered at the scene. The group is accused of forming an unlawful assembly and obstructing officials from performing their duties.
The complaint further states that the individuals behaved aggressively, caused a disturbance, and attempted to halt the government’s operation. During the incident, the constable was allegedly physically assaulted. It is claimed that he was grabbed by the collar and pushed forcefully, resulting in him losing his balance and fracturing his right hand.
Authorities have also recorded allegations of abusive and objectionable language used against police and GHMC officials, which reportedly disrupted the official proceedings and tarnished the dignity of public servants.
The incident was witnessed by other police personnel, GHMC staff, and supporting officials present at the scene. Additionally, a video of the incident is said to be circulating on social media, although its authenticity has not yet been independently verified.
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation has been initiated by the Hussaini Alam Police.
Officials stated that further inquiry will establish the exact sequence of events and the involvement of each individual named in the complaint.
Meanwhile, the police arrested MIM worker Sahil Akbar and remanded him for 14 days’ judicial custody.
