Hyderabad: December 30 Posted on 8:02PM IST
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has issued a series of wide-ranging directions to newly appointed GHMC Zonal Commissioners, outlining an ambitious roadmap to transform Greater Hyderabad into a clean, smart, and well-governed city.
Addressing a review meeting at Secreatriat on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said the government has decided to develop the core urban region within the Outer Ring Road in a planned and systematic manner. He referred to the recently released Telangana Rising 2047 Vision Document, which aims to place the State’s development on a long-term, structured path.
Under the new administrative framework, the city within the CURE limits has been reorganised into 12 zones, 60 circles, and 300 wards. The restructuring, he said, is intended to put the city’s administration firmly on track and improve accountability at every level.
Run a Comprehesive clean-up drive
Highlighting solid waste management as Hyderabad’s most complex challenge, the Chief Minister announced a comprehensive clean-up drive across the core urban region. Zonal Commissioners have been made directly responsible for resolving issues in their respective jurisdictions and have been instructed to remain in the field every day.
The government has also decided to impose a complete ban on plastic usage in the city. Protection of lakes and stormwater drains from encroachments, large-scale pollution control measures, and the introduction of electric vehicles in place of diesel buses and autos within CURE limits were among the key initiatives announced.
To strengthen monitoring, CCTV cameras are to be installed near lakes, nalas, and garbage dumping points. Special sanitation drives will be conducted three days every month, while garbage clearance operations are to be undertaken once every ten days.
Stress on Smart Governance
The Chief Minister also stressed the need for smart governance, calling for extensive use of technology in issuing birth and death certificates, trade licences, and other civic services through transparent online systems. Continuous coordination with colony welfare and apartment associations was also emphasised.
Desilting of nalas by HYDRA, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, and the Water Works department will begin from January, while mosquito control, disease prevention, street lighting, and rapid response to toll-free complaints were also prioritised.
The Chief Minister directed officials to prepare a five-year action plan, concluding that only collective effort would ensure Hyderabad’s future remains secure and bright.
