The Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate has successfully recovered 1,039 lost and stolen mobile phones worth approximately Rs. 2.08 crore over the past six months, marking a significant achievement in public service and technology-driven policing.

The recovery was carried out using the Central Equipment Identity Registry (CEIR) portal, a government-backed system designed to trace and block lost or stolen mobile devices across India. The initiative was undertaken following directions from Avinash Mohanty, Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri.

Special teams were constituted at CCS LB Nagar and Malkajgiri divisions, with active support from the IT Cell. According to official data, 739 mobile phones were recovered from the LB Nagar zone, while 300 devices were traced and seized in the Malkajgiri area, bringing the total to 1,039 phones.

Police officials stated that these recoveries were made within a span of six months. Including this operation, a total of 4,733 mobile phones have been recovered so far this year across the commissionerate limits, reflecting a sustained effort to address mobile theft and loss cases.

On January 8, 2025, the recovered mobile phones were formally handed over to their rightful owners during an interaction event organized by the Malkajgiri Police. The Commissioner of Police personally interacted with beneficiaries and gathered feedback on the functioning of the police department in handling lost mobile cases.

During the event, police officials also advised citizens to safeguard their mobile devices and protect personal data stored on them. Owners expressed heartfelt gratitude upon receiving their phones and praised the efforts of the police teams involved.

Senior officers including DCP Crimes K. Guna Sekhar, Additional DCP Crimes CH. Rameshwar, and ACP Crimes Karuna Sagar supervised the operation. Special teams comprising inspectors, sub-inspectors, and IT personnel played a crucial role in tracing the devices through the CEIR system.

The police issued a public advisory warning that buying or selling stolen mobile phones is a criminal offense. Citizens were urged to purchase devices only with authorized bills, use strong passwords, enable device tracking features, back up data regularly, and promptly report any loss or theft to the police.
