Tight Security as Counting Begins in Marathwada Civic Polls
Vote counting for five municipal corporations in the Marathwada region, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, began at 10 am on January 16 amid tight security. The elections witnessed polling-day tensions over alleged bogus voters and fake Aadhaar cards, even as voter turnout remained strong.
The municipal corporation elections in Marathwada concluded with mixed scenes of tension and enthusiasm. In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, several polling stations reported disputes related to polling slips, bogus voters, and alleged fake Aadhaar cards, creating a tense atmosphere in certain areas.
Despite these challenges, voter participation remained high. On polling day evening, long queues were seen outside several polling booths, reflecting strong public engagement in the democratic process. Final turnout data showed that 60 percent voting was recorded across 115 wards in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, slightly lower than the 63 percent recorded in the previous election.
A major highlight of this election cycle was Jalna, where municipal corporation elections were held for the first time. The city recorded a voter turnout of 61.16 percent. Vote counting in Jalna began at 10 am at a ground located in the industrial estate area of the city, with heavy police deployment to prevent any untoward incidents.
Other municipal corporations in the region also recorded healthy turnout figures. Nanded–Waghala registered 61.71 percent voting, Parbhani recorded the highest turnout at 65.99 percent, while Latur saw 60.8 percent of voters casting their ballots.
