In a remarkable achievement for India’s space ecosystem, a CubeSat payload developed by one of the youngest teams in the world is set to be launched on 12 January aboard ISRO’s PSLV-C62 mission. The launch is scheduled for 10:17 AM and marks a rare example of the complete aerospace engineering cycle being successfully executed by school students.
The CubeSat payload, named Project SBB-1 “Factory Light”, has been designed and built by a team of 17 students aged between 12 and 15 years. These students belong to Blue Blocks Montessori School, Gachibowli, Hyderabad. ISRO has officially integrated the payload into the PSLV-C62 mission, making it a globally significant milestone in student-led space innovation.
During the launch, students from all academic levels of the school will be present at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, with select students granted access to the mission control room—an exceptional opportunity at such a young age.
Earlier, on 8 January, the young scientists showcased a live demonstration of their CubeSat at the Auditorium. The event was attended by Mr. Goyal, Founder of Blue Blocks Montessori Schools, and Ms. Munira Hussain, Co-Founder, who praised the students’ dedication and technical excellence.
Speaking on the occasion, the founders stated that the project proves age is not a barrier to high-end engineering. “These are not engineers of the future; they are flight-ready engineers of today,” they said.
Ms. Munira Hussain further explained that Blue Blocks Montessori is a Hyderabad-based institution known for its innovative curriculum, which integrates advanced laboratories for space science, drones, and blockchain technology, enabling hands-on learning from an early age.
The achievement has drawn appreciation from senior officials of ISRO and IN-SPACe, who lauded the students for their pioneering effort and described the project as an inspiration for the next generation of Indian space scientists.
