Hyderabad, 26 November: Hyderabad’s Film Nagar police arrested a 39-year-old man who posed as an IAS, IPS, and NIA officer to cheat people by offering government contracts and issuing fake promises. The accused, 39 year old Battini Shashikant, lived in Aparna Aura Apartments in Jubilee Hills. He used fake identity cards, visiting cards, and forged government documents to present himself as a senior official.
West Zone DCP Ch. Srinivas shared the details on Thursday during a press conference. He said Shashikant targeted people with high incomes. He used a private car fitted with a police siren and walkie-talkies to create the appearance of authority.
Police said Shashikant cheated the Managing Director of Gold Gym of more than ten lakh rupees. Officers arrested him on November 25. A case is registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to cheating, forgery, criminal intimidation, and deception.
Investigators found that he posed as a Deputy Commissioner in the Mines Department for two years. He also introduced himself as an IPS officer and an NIA official on different occasions. His behaviour and body language influenced victims who believed he was a real officer. He always kept two private security guards with him as his security and shown himself as high high-profile officer, DCP added.
Police seized fake identity cards, forged documents, visiting cards, a modified car, and other evidence from his possession. The investigation is in progress.
