A fire reportedly broke out near a residential building in Mumbai following the bursting of crackers during an election campaign, prompting Bollywood actor Daisy Shah to criticise what she described as a “system failure.”
The incident occurred late at night when Daisy Shah was walking her dogs near her residence. According to her statements, firecrackers were burst as part of an election-related campaign, which allegedly led to a nearby house catching fire and causing panic among residents.
In an Instagram post shared shortly after the incident, Shah expressed anger over what she termed irresponsible behaviour by those involved in the campaign. She claimed that after the fire broke out, those responsible left the scene, forcing local residents to deal with the consequences on their own.
The actor stressed that her comments were not politically motivated. “I have got nothing to do with any political party,” she wrote, adding that election campaign teams should be hired responsibly and must display basic civic sense, especially in residential areas.
Shah also revealed that her building’s committee had previously refused permission for campaigners to conduct door-to-door activities in the premises, a decision she said helped prevent further chaos.
Speaking to members of the media later, Daisy Shah maintained a consistent stance, clarifying that she was not trying to target any individual or organisation. “I said what I had to say already. There is no political agenda, nor am I trying to pin this on anybody. I stated what exactly happened,” she said.
The incident has reignited discussions around safety measures during election campaigns, particularly the use of firecrackers in densely populated urban neighbourhoods. Many residents and social media users echoed Shah’s concerns, calling for stricter enforcement of civic rules to ensure public safety during political events.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident. Residents have urged local officials to investigate the matter and ensure accountability to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
