Australian woman cricket great Alyssa Healy on Tuesday announced her retirement from international cricket after the upcoming home series against India in March this year.
The 35-year-old will captain Australia for the final time in three ODIs and a one-off women’s Test in Perth. She will not feature in the T20Is, having made herself unavailable for the T20 World Cup in the UK later this year.
“It’s with mixed emotions that the upcoming India series will be my last for Australia,” Healy said. “I’m still passionate about playing, but I feel I’ve lost some of the competitive edge that’s driven me for so long, so the time feels right.”
Healy cited injuries and the mental toll of repeated comebacks as key factors in her decision, admitting recent seasons made her realize motivation was fading.
One of the most influential players in women’s cricket history, Healy has been central to Australia’s dominance over the past decade, winning eight world titles — six T20 World Cups and two ODI World Cups.
Across her career, the wicketkeeper-batter played 10 Tests, 123 ODIs and 162 T20Is, scoring 489 Test runs, 3,563 ODI runs (with seven centuries) and 3,054 T20I runs.
“I’ll genuinely miss my teammates and walking out to open the batting for Australia,” Healy said. “Representing my country has been an incredible honour, and I’m grateful for one last series in the green and gold.” she added.
Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg hailed Healy as one of the game’s all-time greats, praising her impact on and off the field and saying her achievements would be celebrated during the India series.
