The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen recorded a strong performance in the Maharashtra local body elections by winning one Mayor post and securing the election of 83 councillors across several municipalities.
According to a statment of Former Member of Parliament and AIMIM Maharashtra president Syed Imtiaz Jaleel AIMIM won the Mayor’s post in the Karanja Municipal Council, marking a significant milestone for the party in the state. The party also registered notable gains in several small and medium towns, reflecting its expanding political presence beyond a few urban centres.
Syed Imtiaz Jaleel expressed satisfaction over the party’s performance. He said the results disproved the perception that AIMIM was limited to only a few cities in Maharashtra. He pointed out that the party contested elections in many smaller towns and emerged successful in several places.
Jaleel noted that in many constituencies, AIMIM candidates lost by narrow margins of 20 to 50 votes, indicating growing grassroots support. He added that vote division in certain areas prevented the party from achieving even greater success.
Responding to questions on the Congress party, Imtiaz Jaleel remarked that the BJP was accommodating even its staunch opponents due to its focus on retaining power. In such a political environment, he said, it would not be appropriate for the Congress to adopt an inflexible approach, as unity could have prevented vote fragmentation.
According to Jaleel AIMIM secured 1 Mayor post and 17 councillor seats in Karanja. The party also won councillor seats in Jalgaon with 4 seats, Buldhana with 13 seats, Dhule with 1 seat, Osmanabad with 1 seat, Kamthi with 2 seats, Baitul with 2 seats, Nanded with 2 seats, Akola with 11 seats, Yavatmal with 7 seats, Nandurbar with 4 seats, Gir with 2 seats, Mangrulpir with 3 seats, Washim with 5 seats, and Amravati with 7 seats.
AIMIM had contested a total of 155 seats across various municipal councils in Maharashtra. Party leaders and workers celebrated the results in several towns, calling the outcome a clear signal of the party’s growing acceptance in local governance.
Meanwhile, MIM workers also celebrated the party’s victory at the Darussalam party office in Aurangabad.
